Jared Archibald is a highly respected curator at the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT), where he has played a pivotal role in preserving and interpreting the rich and diverse history of the region for over three decades. Since beginning his career as a taxidermist in the footsteps of his father—who famously prepared 'Sweetheart,' the iconic crocodile—Jared has developed into a leading expert in Northern Territory history. As Curator of Territory History for the past 10 years, his deep knowledge in biology, geology, and military history has shaped landmark exhibitions such as the Defence of Darwin Experience and Unruly Days: Life in the Territory 1911–1921.
Jared’s impact goes far beyond museum walls. He is a passionate storyteller, engaging the community through public lectures, media appearances, and historical society collaborations. His contributions have not only educated but also inspired countless Territorians to appreciate and protect their shared heritage. In recognition of his outstanding service to the museum and gallery sector, Jared was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in 2022. His unwavering dedication, vast expertise, and lifelong commitment make him a cornerstone of the Northern Territory’s cultural landscape.
