Ramnik Singh Walia is a passionate advocate for senior rights who graduated with a Certificate III in Individual Support (Aged Care and Community Services) from Charles Darwin University in 2020. Based in East Arnhem Land, Ramnik has channeled the values and practical skills gained from CDU into a career dedicated to advancing the rights of seniors and people living with disabilities. As a Senior Rights Advocate with the Darwin Community Legal Service, he has worked on high-profile cases addressing accessibility, supported decision-making, aged care diversity, neglect, and financial abuse—many of which have attracted national and state media attention. His commitment to accessibility led to the development of multilingual resources in over seven languages and efforts to create a dementia-friendly space for clients.
Ramnik’s advocacy has reached across the Northern Territory, from Darwin to Katherine, Daly Waters, and remote parts of East and West Arnhem Land. He has delivered over 100 community workshops on elder rights, abuse prevention, and aged care standards, empowering communities with knowledge and resources. His creative approach includes launching "Manymak Vibes of Arnhem," a visual storytelling newsletter series that began as a disability inclusion project in Milingimbi and expanded across the region. His artwork has been exhibited internationally, and he is set to speak at the 2024 Elder Abuse Action Australia conference in Adelaide. Ramnik continues to raise awareness through public speaking, ABC Radio interviews, and grassroots campaigns, embodying the values of CDU and making a lasting impact through advocacy and education.
