Teegan Wattam is a proud Larrakia and Wadjigan woman and the first First Nations student to complete a Master's in Language Therapy at Charles Darwin University. A dedicated community leader and role model, Teegan consistently demonstrated academic excellence and cultural leadership during her studies, inspiring others through her active involvement in CDU events and her commitment to First Nations education and wellbeing. Now working as a specialist speech therapist, she integrates professional expertise with cultural knowledge to provide transformative support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families, ensuring culturally safe and effective care.
Beyond her clinical work, Teegan is a passionate advocate for Indigenous health, youth empowerment, and cultural preservation. She has developed culturally appropriate programs to improve health outcomes, mentored countless young First Nations individuals, and championed the revitalisation of Indigenous languages. Her leadership and dedication to strengthening community pride and resilience make her an exceptional candidate for the CDU First Nations Alumni Award, reflecting the values and spirit of the university through her ongoing impact and inspiration.
