CDU Innov8 connecting business with research and innovation
Charles Darwin University’s (CDU) research will be showcased during October Business Month’s Innovation Week.
Research into smart solutions to construction waste management to advances in DNA technology will feature at CDU’s Innov8 event at its Darwin Waterfront campus next Monday (7 October).
Researchers from across the university’s research institutes and colleges will have eight minutes each to present on their work, which will showcase innovation ranging from new ways of thinking to new ways of doing.
Acting Director of Research, Dr Alexandra Murray said the CDU Innov8 event was a great opportunity for business and research to connect.
“CDU research has real-world impact. We pride ourselves on producing research that makes a difference, particularly in the areas of tropical health and environmental management where our research rates very highly for its real-world impact,” Dr Murray said.
“Since 2017 we have been showcasing our research and innovation at October Business Month and highlighting to industry how we can help them solve problems and take advantage of new opportunities,” she said.
This year’s Innov8 program features:
- Professor Karen Gibb – DNA technology for real-world solutions
- Dr Deepika Mathur – Smart Skips: A solution towards constriction waste management
- Professor Hamish Campbell – Opportunities and challenges for drone technologies in the north
- Professor Payi Linda Ford - Aboriginal Cosmology – What this means for women and gender policy
- Robert Lowe/Ian Grimshaw – Retrofit abode to Smart abode
- Professor Suresh Thennadil – Cattle to chemicals: A spectroscopic device for non-invasive and inline measurement
- Barbara White/Patrick Alegria/Reema Bali – An Immersive Journey through Virtual Reality Katelyn Paige-Rossiter – Social media in Disasters: Is there more to it than just warning people?
Last year, the CDU Innov8 event was fully booked with more than 80 people attending.
CDU Innov8 is a free event and open to the public. The master of ceremonies will be Ali Burton from Mix 104.9 and Seven Darwin.
This year’s event will be held on Monday, 7 October at Level Five of CDU’s Waterfront Campus, from 5pm to 8pm.
