Beauty student makes WorldSkills final
A Charles Darwin University (CDU) beauty therapy student from Alice Springs will represent the Northern Territory at the WorldSkills Australia National Competition in Perth this year.
Ella Adami, a Diploma of Beauty student who ranked highest in the NT regional competition last year, is the first WorldSkills national finalist from Alice Springs in five years.
“I’m so excited to have an opportunity to see how my skills compare with other practitioners from around Australia,” Ella said.
“It’s amazing that there are opportunities like this in the field of beauty, a profession that I love.”
Ella said she would find out later exactly what would be required of finalists during the three-day event starting on 13 August.
“Basically, we know that it will be a competition designed by industry experts to assess our knowledge and competence against a set of criteria.”
Ella has the experience from the 2019 regional final and from having taken part in the CDU Time to Shine student showcase in 2018 where she won the Festival category.
Born and raised in Alice Springs, Ella works part-time at Beaute on The Mall, where she provides a range of services including tinting, tanning, waxing, facials, pedicures and manicures.
“There’s still a lot to learn,” she said.
“I’d like to undertake further studies and specialise in dermal therapy, and one day own my own salon.”
Ella’s VET trainer Deb Street also has been invited to the WorldSkills competition as a student support team member.
