CDU welcomes new students as Orientation Week begins
Hundreds of new students will be welcomed to campuses across the Territory this week to get their first taste of university life as Semester Two Orientation Week begins.
Charles Darwin University’s (CDU) O-Week activities will run from August 15 to 19 with a range of events being held across campuses at Casuarina, Alice Springs and Sydney.
Virtual activities will also be available to the hundreds of students expected to attend ahead of Semester Two commencing on August 22.
The week will kick off with welcome events at the Casuarina and Sydney campuses where students will be able to collect their welcome packs, take campus tours and set up their accounts.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor Students and VET, Sam Jacob said O-Week activities aim to help students start their academic career off on the right foot.
“O-Week is an important opportunity for students to get settled into university life and become familiar with their campus and the support services available to them,” Mx Jacob said.
“CDU is one of the most multicultural and diverse universities in Australia and throughout O-Week students will be greeted with the best hospitality from our staff, lecturers and student ambassadors.”
Throughout the week, students will be able to attend a range of webinars and ‘how to’ sessions including how to use the library, how to reference, stories of success and connecting with student groups.
There will also be opportunities for students to connect with their colleges, college Deans and lecturers.
CDU O-Week Co-ordinator Nina Iannello said this week’s events are an important opportunity for students to get a taste of university life and meet their peers.
“We know that for many students starting university can be a daunting experience, so O-Week is a great way to engage with students and show them what university life is like and the support that is on offer to them,” Mrs Iannello said.
“This week’s activities have been designed to set our students up for success as well as providing a fun-filled experience. I really encourage all of our new students to attend O-Week and enjoy the activities on offer.”
The week will conclude with an ‘O-Week meet and mingle’ event at CDU’s Casuarina campus which will provide students with an opportunity to unwind, meet new friends and prepare for the experience ahead.
New students can go to cdu.edu.au/orientation for both a timetable of events, including all the social events on offer and details around how to register for activities.
