Sip and safety initiative supports CDU students
Charles Darwin University (CDU) students got a free morning cup of coffee with a side of advice today at Casuarina campus, as local police officers offered a space to ask questions about safety at the University, at home and in the community.
The collaboration with Northern Territory Police and Study NT aims to foster an inclusive campus environment while providing students with the opportunity to engage with local law enforcement.
CDU Student Engagement Director Sarah Fletcher said the event was an opportunity for students, particularly international students, to come forward with their concerns about safety.
“Coffee with a cop has been effective at other locations around Darwin, and now CDU students can learn more about ways to feel safe and supported,” Ms Fletcher said.
“Moving to another country to study can be daunting for some students who have never been away from home, so it’s important to help students connect with safety and wellbeing services on campus, as well as in the community, to ensure they know who they can turn to for help.”
Various sports and engaging activities were arranged on the side for students to play against peers and enjoy a vibrant atmosphere while conversing with local police officers.
The initiative joins CDU's other efforts to support international students studying in Darwin, including the HomeStays and StudyStays programs and sponsorship of Kindness Shake.
