Student artworks on show in Darwin lightboxes
Creative and Digital Arts students at Charles Darwin University (CDU) are showcasing their innovative artworks through the City of Darwin’s CityLife Lightbox Platform.
Artworks by seven CDU arts students have been selected to exhibit across the Nightcliff Pool, Smith Street Mall and Dragonfly Carpark from now until September.
The exhibition Night + Day showcases a fresh range of bright works from the CDU students, who were selected from the artistic cohort of current digital media students.
CDU Creative and Digital Arts course coordinator Sarah Pirrie said the students’ work reflected the unique theme of the Northern Territory.
“Just like the lightboxes which illuminate both day and night, our CDU creatives have considered the thematic of Night and Day through engagement with the site,” Ms Pirrie said.
“Storytelling and placemaking are attuned to personal histories and encounters with Darwin’s living environment.”
The artists presented in the exhibition are Shannan Hayes, Nikita Kafetzis, Aaron Othman, Rafael Lontoc, Thuy Truong, Isabelle Henderson and Jemma Petch.
CDU final year student Aaron Othman’s artwork The Flying Squad is a digital composite of the past and present as a battleground and memorial site for the bombing of Darwin.
Another CDU student Thuy Truong reflects her interest and creative exploration of Darwin’s Vietnamese Australian culture through the artwork Chilling in the Rain.
